The air grew noticeably cooler as we climbed higher into the forest. It smelled completely clean—just wet earth, wild grass, and deep mist. The loud chatter of the crowds below slowly disappeared, replaced by the steady dripping of water from the leaves above.
After about forty minutes of steady walking, the trees finally cleared. We stepped onto a flat, grassy ridge completely wrapped in soft, white fog. For a few seconds, the wind blew the mist away, showing a great view of the green valleys below. We sat down on a dry boulder, shared a bottle of water, and just enjoyed the breeze. Sometimes, the best part of an adventure is simply choosing the path less traveled.
