Just as my legs began to shake from the constant, steep downward scramble, a deafening, thunderous roar echoed through the trees. Breaking through the final thicket, we stepped into a massive horseshoe-shaped amphitheater of rock.
There it was—Kataldhar, a colossal 350-foot sheet of roaring white water smashing into the valley floor. The sheer force of the wind and mist blew back our hair before we even got close. Looking out at the world through a literal wall of thundering rain, the exhausting climb back up ahead of us didn't matter at all. We had found the hidden heartbeat of the Sahyadris.
