The wind here was different. It didn’t just blow; it pushed hard against our chests, carrying the sharp, clean scent of rain-washed grass. Ahead, a small mountain stream trickled over the black basalt rock, making its way toward the sheer drop.
But as we reached the edge, the water simply disappeared upward. A massive, invisible wall of wind caught the stream mid-air, shredding it into a violent, upside-down spray that showered us from below. The sudden blast of cold mist made us gasp, then laugh, our faces instantly drenched. Standing on that slippery mountain edge, watching a river fly backward into the fog, the familiar old fort suddenly felt entirely wild and unpredictable.
