The forest path ended exactly where the ocean began.

The open plateau felt entirely exposed to the elements, pounded by wind coming off the Arabian Sea. But as the trail dipped down into a sudden, rocky depression, the vegetation closed in. The sharp smell of ocean salt vanished, replaced instantly by the earthy fragrance of wet roots and heavy forest moss.

Then came the roar. Kasheli Waterfall revealed itself as a wide, multi-tiered staircase of dark stone shrouded in thick jungle greenery. White, foam-flecked water cascaded down the rock steps, collecting into a series of shallow, completely natural stone basins. We sat on the edge of the rocks, letting the cool fresh water wash over our feet while watching the stream wind its way down the ravine toward the hidden sea cliffs just beyond the trees. It was a perfect, unhurried moment where the soul of the Konkan coast felt entirely ours.
